Keith Turnbull, a resident of Croxley Green, England, uses the community to help pay for pioneering cancer treatment that keeps him alive. Turnbull suffers from mesothelioma, a rare cancer of the protective membrane of the lungs, heart, chest and abdomen, which was caused almost exclusively by exposure to asbestos, a natural mineral, but toxic in the industry and construction. Turnbull came into contact with asbestos for 20 to 30 years, due to fibers carried home on work overalls from his father.
Turnbull, 65, suffered from malignant mesothelioma in October 2008 and said he had six months of life, not a prediction of mesothelioma rare. However, thanks to a German procedure is not currently available in the UK, Turnbull has long outlived the expectations of any health care professional. Turnbull and his wife traveled to Frankfurt 13 times for treatment at a cost of 3.500 pounds per trip.
"The treatment is called the local chemo-embolization, people come from all over the world to prove, and is the official program of the German government-funded," said Judith Turnbull. "We can only afford to travel four or five. Knowing that treatment is available, but we can not afford is gutting. What is the price of a life?"
As Turnbull had first been exposed to asbestos dangers were known, he can not obtain compensation in the United Kingdom. Therefore, Croxley Green Residents Association ', of which Turner has opened the Bulls as members of the community on behalf of fundraising in order to transform the Bulls to cover the cost of treatment.
