Indus Hotel LLC and Amana Hospitality LLC, owner and operator of the former Ramada hotel near Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has agreed to pay a total of $ 80,000 in confiscation, costs and expenses to resolve the environmental violations that have occurred in the 2008 restructuring plan. Amana was the general contractor for the renovation of the facility closed.

During an inspection in February 2008, the city community services department has been found to contain asbestos in the ceiling had been scraped and partially removed by workers without a license and no training. Asbestos is a mineral fiber that can be highly toxic found in a variety of construction materials manufactured before 1980. Asbestos use is prohibited to cause malignant tumors such as lung cancer and mesothelioma, a rare cancer of the protective membrane of the lungs, chest and abdomen. Because asbestos poses a threat so serious that it can be removed by licensed contractors that meet stringent standards for disposal.

In May 2008 an inspection, inspectors found once again that the panels containing asbestos were removed without adhering to regulations. In both cases there were no guarantees in place for workers not wearing protective clothing or water use or containment to minimize exposure to asbestos. This means that workers have inhaled asbestos fibers are carcinogenic, they can remain in the lungs for decades. These workers are now facing a very real possibility of contracting mesothelioma, which is difficult to detect at an early stage.

Indus and Amana has repeatedly denied allegations that the companies have decided to settle because of the high costs continue to contest the case.
