Fever

"You give me fever....FEVER!" I've had the song in my head pretty much all day!
I am running a lil fever. I went out last night to dinner with the fam and some of their lame friends from work (ha ha~! Just kidding, I love you guys!) The whole time I felt really cold
and strange sensations all the way up to the top of my head. Chills I guess. Ha ha..
that's kind of funny because we were eating at Chili's. Hmmm. My temperature last night
was 100.1. This morning it went up to 100.9. It has been hanging out around 100.5.
I went to the Cancer Center. My onc wasn't there in person, but he prescribed me an
antibiotic through e-mail with one of the nurses. How about modern medicine!
So, ideally this is just an infection of some sort that comes from having a chemo-induced
extra susceptibility to germs. Of course, fever is also one of the lovely symptoms of Hodgkin's, but it is not one I really had much before diagnosis, at least that I know of. My philosophy is really...not to worry. I cannot help but be aware of the possibilities, but I don't see the point in dwelling on any of them. I do wish I felt better and look forward to that...to really feeling good again. That will be nice. But that is not now. Now...is reading, sleeping, dreaming! Not too bad. Jodi Picoult really is a good story-teller! I've temporarily abandoned the Robbins novel (again) and am already more than halfway through My Sister's Keeper, the latest Picoult novel my mom has given me. She (Picoult) picks themes that are so modern, believable, and compelling. There is medical, scientific stuff, and then human relationships stuff, and much switching from one point of view to another, and from one time in history to another. She sets up a good conflict and conjures up curiousity for how (if) it will be resolved. I like it. I think Robbins is a genius, and I appreciate the incredibly creative ways he plays with words, but "compelling" is not a word I would select to describe Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (not "believable" either). Parts of it are just hard to get through! I like that he can spend three pages describing (introducing, rather!) the main character's thumb, but he doesn't get me wondering "what is going to happen next??" At least not in this novel. There's more to art than suspense, I suppose. But suspense is good entertainment.

Last night I had a dream that I enjoyed very much. It was different. The first part was scary...those dreams with the crazy, crazy, highways like rollarcoasters, that twist, sharply incline, go upside down. And I am crawling out on a tree trunk, just balancing, the car has ejected me. But then I am a guest in a mansion. My room is really huge. It is tiled, there is an inground swimming pool, practically the length of the room. There is a piano. Recording equipment. A big fishtank with exotic looking fish. I spend my day organzing the room, choosing where things will go. Then, there are the clothes. Dress, after dress, really beautiful gowns, skirts, girly stuff. Very nice colors, blues, pinks, purples. It is all perfectly organized and I don't have to worry about that at all (yes!). There is also a really nice bathroom/shower room. Really fancy. And I am about to start getting ready for the evening, but then someone comes in and says, oh let me clean it first! Although it already looks perfectly clean, he will not allow me to use it until he cleans it perfectly. So I go and hang out at the pool. Some of the other girls are hanging out in my room/pool too. It is like we are staying at this place and have really nice rooms, we dress up, and are wined and dined every night. In the meantime we can do whatever we want! Ha ha ha...sounds like my heaven.
